This trek takes you to a crossing in between high peak of the Langtang region. Nepal International Tours & Treks Pvt. Ltd. to Langtang & Gosainkunda trekking starts from Kathmandu by bus to Syabrubesi. Then, you will trek to the Langtang Himal area as you approach this region via the Langtang Khola. For several days, you will trek along a gradual winding path through the dense oaks, birch, pines and rhododendron forests of the Langtang National Park. After a trek of 3 days in the Langtang region, you will reach at Kyanjin Gompa (3,749m). Kyangjin is the perfect base for acclimatization in a beautiful surrounding of high snow-covered mountains. It is also the perfect destination for making and plans of explorations and climbs in the upper valley. The Kyanjin Gompa monastery is located on the ridge top formed by glacial moraine of rocks and boulders. You can get fantastic views of icefalls and the gigantic glaciers of Langtang Lirung from Kyanjin village. You can also trek up to Kyanjin Ri (4,350 m). It is the most wonderful vantage point in the trek to view the surrounding glaciers and mountain peaks.

The culture of the Langtang area is quite diverse. This region is home to 3 different ethnic groups- the Tamangs, the Yolmus, and the Bhotias. Most people have their origins in Tibet. These people are followers of Buddhism. So, a visit to the Langtang region is a chance to explore Tibetan Buddhism in this region. Langtang region is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The park consists of plant species like Chir Pine, Rhododendron, Nepalese Alder, Oak, Silver Fir, Hemlock and Larch. Langtang region is also well known for its populations of the red panda, Himalayan black bear, wild dog, Himalayan Tahr, goral (mountain antelope) and more than 250 species of birds. From Kjanjim Gompa, you will trek for a few days to get to Gosaikunda. Gosaikunda is a holy lake of Hindus. The full moon as per the Nepali Lunar calendar is when a lot of pilgrims come to pay homage and take a ritual bath at Gosainkunda pond. People also believe that drinking the holy water at Gosaikunda relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes. From Gosaikunda, you will make your journey past villages like Ghopte Odar, Kutumsang, Chisapani, and Sundarijal before finally arriving at Kathmandu valley. Best Time for Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Pass Trek

Autumn (September, October, and November) and Spring (March, April, and May) are the best seasons for completing the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Pass trek. The highest number of people complete the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Pass trek in these seasons. Clear mornings of these seasons allow for some of the most splendid views of mountains. Further, it doesn’t get hot while trekking in these seasons. The rainfall is also low which means the trekking trails are dry. Winter (December, January, February) is also a good time to complete the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Pass trek. However, you will have to have proper packing to ward off the cold in this season. Similarly, with appropriate gear and planning, you can complete the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Pass trek in the summer season (June, July, August) as well. You also need to have flexible timings as the rain might interrupt your trek.

Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Pass Trek Difficulty

Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Pass trek lasts 16 days long. The lowest point of this trek is Sundarijal (1380 meters) and the highest point of the trek is Gosaikunda Pass (4609 meters). The altitude gains during this trek are quite mild. However, when you get to Gosaikunda lake or cross the Gosaikunda Pass, you will trek to an altitude of over 4000 meters. You will also encounter some steep uphills along the way. So the trek is moderately difficult. This means that preparation of 2-3 months before embarking upon this trek will be ideal preparation for this trek.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.

Day 02: Half day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu.

After your first night in Kathmandu, you will be well informed on arrival about the time for your half day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest if booked.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu – Syabrubesi 1,460m. 7 – 8 hours.

Early morning drive to Syabrubesi, the ride to the winding uphill and downhill road, passes many rural towns and farm villages the bigger town on route Trisuli Bazaar, this place lies in the sub-tropical climatic zone the road, the ride leads uphill to a cooler region leaving the rice paddy behind to maize and millet terraced fields as the weather changes with the culture and the people as well, passing at Dhunche 1,965m, a major town of the Langtang area and Rusuwa district. From here, the journey continues further downhill for 1-2 hours to Syabrubesi village for the overnight stop.

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,420 m approx 5 – 6 hours walk.

The walk from here leads to a cool forest inside the gorge following the torrent glacial Trisuli River upstream, the path from here leads to gentle uphill in the cool shade of rhododendron and oaks forest after few hours walk, arriving at Lama-Hotel, where there are facilities for camping and staying in one of these local teahouses serving as lodges for the trekkers.

Day 05: Trek to Langtang village 3, 430m/10,850ft approx 3 hours walk.

From here three hours reaches you at Ghoretabla located is in the middle of the forest of pines, hemlocks, and rhododendron from here onwards you can feel the altitude also. Ghoretabla in Nepali means the “Horse-Stable”, as this an ideal place for the cattle’s and horses to graze on the meadows with numerous creeks around for watering. Ghoretabla, trek continues for few hours on the road to Langtang village and to its beautiful valley, the walk leads through the alpine forest for an hour, on reaching a small stream and then leaving the tree line behind, the walks get better on the gradual winding path with few ups and down till Langtang Village is reached for the overnight stop with time to visit the villages with a glimpse of Langtang Himal peeping in the north on top of the great rock wall.

Day 06: Trek to Kyangin Gompa 3,870m. 3 – 4 hours.

From this wonderful village, morning walk leads through the gradual path for a short while, then the path winds uphill for few hours through the prickly Burberry and high alpine shrubs, and encountering “mani-prayer wall” where walking in the clockwise direction is the positive way of respecting the local culture and religion, as our walk leads to farther east the valley opens up and then walking on the grassy meadow with views of numerous snow-capped peaks in the distance. The walk is more pleasant and can be vigorous due to altitude gain as we come to our destination at Kyangin Gompa. Kyangin Gompa, a scenic charming spot, with peaks looming from all direction, the closest peak that you can see is the Langtang Lirung of over 7,000m and its icefall just at leisurely distance from the campsite, Kyangin Gompa, a small monastery located on the top of the ridge formed by glacial moraine of rocks and boulders, within Kyangin Gompa area there are 6-7 lodges and a cheese factory.

Day 07: Rest – Day for acclimatization at leisure for a hike around.

At leisure a rest day for a short walk at the nearby hill called Kyangin Ri 4,700m. To add more heights on this adventure which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, visit the cheese factory with rest of the day at leisure.

Day 08: Trek back to Lama Hotel 2, 420m 6 – 7 hours walk

After a wonderful time at Kyngin, retrace the journey back on the same trail to Lama-Hotel a small settlement in the midst of the forest at the bank of upper Trisuli River.

Day 09: Trek to Upper Syabru village 2,250m 5 – 6 hours walk.

The walk follows the same route for an hour, then after the bridge the walk is pleasant through the rain and bamboo forest, after leaving the river way down below, the climb starts uphill through the landslide bit of rocks and boulders, passing through farm terraces till Upper Syabru is reached, row of houses like built on a ridge and it has a monastery near its helipad just few minutes up from the village.

Day 10: Trek to Singh Gompa 3,254m or Chandanbari. 4 – 5 hours walk.

From here walk follows uphill on the winding trail above the Monastery, as the trek gains more height, superb view of Ganesh-Himal, Manaslu, Langtang and Annapurna range in the far west, after a few refreshing stops in the teahouse, journey continues one hour uphill from the farmlands to the cool shade of the alpine forest, once out of the thick forest, comes to a meadow with one or two teahouses, a lunch break can be had here depending upon the availability of clean fresh water. From this spot, the walk is almost gradual with a good walk through the pines and rhododendron forest with a view of Dhunche town down below. On arriving at Singompa, the first few houses are cheese processing factory, overnight stop near its Monastery.

Day 11: Trek to Gosainkund 4,381m. 4 – 5 hours walk.

The trek today offers more spectacular views of an array of snow peak range of Langtang to the north and Ganesh-Himal range north-west along with Manaslu and Annapurna range due west, the walk is gradual up in the beginning for an hour as you enter the woodland of oaks, pines, and rhododendron after being in the cool shade of the forest, comes to a clearing where one or two houses teahouses are located, after a brief stop here with excellent view of the Langtang range, the trail continues uphill leaving the tree lines and lush vegetation behind for dwarf rhododendron, juniper, and alpine shrubs bushes.The path unwinds uphill passing through few teahouses at Laurabina, with more views of the northwestern Himalayan range, after the place of Laurabina which means a place with walking sticks, during the auspicious time in and around August in the full moon as per the Nepali Luna calendar, the pilgrims come to pay homage and where a ritual bath at Gosainkund pond delivers a pilgrims to paradise and drink of its holy water relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes and the Hindu pilgrims comes here to change their holy thread also, on the way back here at the top of Laurabina 4,450m/14,600ft. most of the pilgrims leave their walking sticks behind, needing no more as they head downland after a hard strenuous climb up. After the top, the trail descends for half an hour the first pond that you come across are Saraswati and Bhiarav kunda after a small climb brings you to our overnight stop at Gosainkund near the shore of this glacial pristine pond. Here you can see lots of traces left behind by the pilgrims.

Day 12: Trek to Ghopte Odar 3,440m via Gosainkund pass 4,609m approx 6 hrs.

From Gosainkund a gradual walk on the small path along the bank of the pond, and climbing up near the small creek in between the rocks and boulders, the walk up brings us closer to the small pond of Surjakund the trail here is more gradual winding up to the last pass of Gosainkund or the east Laurabina La the highest spot of this trek. After reaching the top, a long descent brings you to Phedi (bottom) 3,694m a place with one or two teahouses. A lunch stop is usually set here; it will be quite a relief after the long steep hard descent. After a nice lunch break, the journey continues towards east to the Helambu region, the trail from here is bit of everything gradual, short few uphill and downhill as you come back to the vegetation of junipers, rhododendron, and other alpine bushes.3-4 hours from lunch will bring you in the middle of the road place at Ghopte (meaning overhanging rocks, nature’s gift as a cozy shelter to the pilgrims) around this area there are few small caves formed by overhanging large rocks. Ghopte has two teahouses.

Day 13: Trek to Kutumsang 2,470m  5 – 6 hrs walk.

After being in the absolute wilderness, the trail from here joins the other path of Helambu and to Kathmandu, the walk today is pleasant through the alpine forest for an hour, with another one hour uphill to Tharepati 3,597m. A lovely spot on the high ridge overlooking the views of the snow-capped peaks of Jugal Himalayan range in the east and Ganesh-Manaslu in the west, you can make out the ridge and the trail coming out of Gosainkund. A lunch break can be had here after a short walk from Ghopte, its worth a view with the lunch., from here the trail descends for few hours to Mangeghot, a nice place with a grassy field, with an Army Barrack nearby. The trek from here onwards, leads to farm fields, villages and too few forest areas, from Mangeghot few hours walk brings you to Kutumsang village 2,445m, inhabited by Sherpa and Tamang hill tribes,

Day 14: Trek to Chisopani Danda 2,195m  approx. 6-7 hours.

The walk from here is more pleasant passing through number of rural farm village the trail brings you to a village of Pati Bhanjayang after a 3-4 hours trek, from this village a short uphill climb to the overnight stop at Chisopani danda a scenic spot at the top of the hilltop en-route to Kathmandu and to other places at the rim of Kathmandu Valley.

Chisopani, a scenic viewpoint with 4-6 teahouses and an Army Camp nearby, this places offers a fantastic view of the Jugal Himal range in the northeast and Ganesh Himal-Manaslu and Annapurna range in the west. Apart from the snow peaks, a lovely view of the surrounding landscapes and valleys down below.

Day 15: 3 hours to Sundarijal 1,380m an hour drive back to Kathmandu.

The last day of this beautiful journey, leads through serene forest and farmlands after a few hours of gradual walk and to the top of the ridge of Burlang and Chepu Bhanjyang at 2,438m with a great view of Kathmandu Valley, from here the track descents to Sundarijal (meaning beautiful water) a lovely spot with cool patch of forest with monkeys and fresh streams, a picnic spot for most of the Kathmandu people who wants to escape for a day from the busy crowded metropolitan life in the city. In the early days, it used to be a summer resident and palace of the Rana aristocrat rulers. An hour descent brings you back to civilization as you board in the vehicle for the drive to the inner Kathmandu from its eastern suburb Sundarijal the drive passes through the famed places of Bouddhanath renowned for its enormous Buddhist Chaitya or Stupa with the ever-present all seeing mystical eyes of Lord Buddha.

Day 16: Free day at leisure in Kathmandu.  

A free day in Kathmandu, please inform our staff if you would like to go on another short tour in and around Kathmandu Valley.

Day 17: Transfer to Airport for the International departure.

Today as per your international flight time, keep your confirmed air ticket, Our staff will transfer you to the International airport for your final departure from Nepal, the land of high Himalayas.

After a nice lunch break, the journey continues towards east to the Helambu region, the trail from here is bit of everything gradual, short few uphill and downhill as you come back to the vegetation of junipers, rhododendron, and other alpine bushes.3-4 hours from lunch will bring you in the middle of the road place at Ghopte (meaning overhanging rocks, nature’s gift as a cozy shelter to the pilgrims) around this area there are few small caves formed by overhanging large rocks. Ghopte has two teahouses.

Day 13: Trek to Kutumsang 2,470m  5 – 6 hrs walk.

After being in the absolute wilderness, the trail from here joins the other path of Helambu and to Kathmandu, the walk today is pleasant through the alpine forest for an hour, with another one hour uphill to Tharepati 3,597m. A lovely spot on the high ridge overlooking the views of the snow-capped peaks of Jugal Himalayan range in the east and Ganesh-Manaslu in the west, you can make out the ridge and the trail coming out of Gosainkund. A lunch break can be had here after a short walk from Ghopte, its worth a view with the lunch., from here the trail descends for few hours to Mangeghot, a nice place with a grassy field, with an Army Barrack nearby. The trek from here onwards, leads to farm fields, villages and too few forest areas, from Mangeghot few hours walk brings you to Kutumsang village 2,445m, inhabited by Sherpa and Tamang hill tribes,

Day 14: Trek to Chisopani Danda 2,195m  approx. 6-7 hours.

The walk from here is more pleasant passing through number of rural farm village the trail brings you to a village of Pati Bhanjayang after a 3-4 hours trek, from this village a short uphill climb to the overnight stop at Chisopani danda a scenic spot at the top of the hilltop en-route to Kathmandu and to other places at the rim of Kathmandu Valley.

Chisopani, a scenic viewpoint with 4-6 teahouses and an Army Camp nearby, this places offers a fantastic view of the Jugal Himal range in the northeast and Ganesh Himal-Manaslu and Annapurna range in the west. Apart from the snow peaks, a lovely view of the surrounding landscapes and valleys down below.

Day 15: 3 hours to Sundarijal 1,380m an hour drive back to Kathmandu.

The last day of this beautiful journey, leads through serene forest and farmlands after a few hours of gradual walk and to the top of the ridge of Burlang and Chepu Bhanjyang at 2,438m with a great view of Kathmandu Valley, from here the track descents to Sundarijal (meaning beautiful water) a lovely spot with cool patch of forest with monkeys and fresh streams, a picnic spot for most of the Kathmandu people who wants to escape for a day from the busy crowded metropolitan life in the city. In the early days, it used to be a summer resident and palace of the Rana aristocrat rulers. An hour descent brings you back to civilization as you board in the vehicle for the drive to the inner Kathmandu from its eastern suburb Sundarijal the drive passes through the famed places of Bouddhanath renowned for its enormous Buddhist Chaitya or Stupa with the ever-present all seeing mystical eyes of Lord Buddha.

Day 16: Free day at leisure in Kathmandu.  

A free day in Kathmandu, please inform our staff if you would like to go on another short tour in and around Kathmandu Valley.

Day 17: Transfer to Airport for the International departure.

Today as per your international flight time, keep your confirmed air ticket, Our staff will transfer you to the International airport for your final departure from Nepal, the land of high Himalayas.
