Best Time for Ghorepani and Poon Hill Panorama Trek

Autumn (September, October, and November), Spring (March, April, and May), and Winter (December, January, and February) are the best seasons for completing the Ghorepani and Poon Hill Panorama Trek. The number of trekkers who come to complete this trek in autumn and spring seasons is higher than in other seasons. Clear mornings with splendid views of mountains, moderate sunshine and low amount of precipitation make this trek popular in these two seasons. However, winter might be the best time to come to Ghorepani and Poon Hill Panorama Trek. The trekking trails are quiet and the mountains are the most scenic in this season. The chances of rain are practically non-existent. Good trekking equipment like trekking boots with form grip, raincoats, and umbrellas will help you to enjoy the Ghorepani and Poon Hill Panorama Trek in the summer season as well. You will have to be able to have a flexible timing though.

Ghorepani and Poon Hill Panorama Trek Difficulty

There are many moderate trekking routes in the Annapurna region. Ghorepani and Poon Hill Panorama Trek is also one of them. Despite being a moderate trek, it is easier than other treks like Annapurna Base Camp trek or Annapurna Circuit Trek.

Ghorepani and Poon Hill Panorama Trek lasts merely 11 days which can be extended if you should require. The maximum altitude you will go to is merely 3200 meters in Poon Hill. So, there are practically no chances of altitude sickness. All the other villages you will go to during this trek are lower than 3000 meters in altitude. There will, however, be quite a few uphills during your trek. The uphill to Ulleri and the hike to Poon Hill from Ghorepani are a few examples of that. We also advise you to take a hike of a day or two before coming to this trek. This will give you a healthy physical and mental preparation for the Ghorepani and Poon Hill Panorama Trek.

Day 02: Half day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. Hotel Accommodation.

You will have breakfast at your hotel in the morning. Then, you will go to a half day sightseeing of Kathmandu city. Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, is an advanced city that retains the heritage of its ancient culture. Architecture of this city is also really beautiful. Here, you can see modern buildings as well as temples of the medieval age.

Pashupatinath Temple:

The largest as well as the most popular Hindu temple in the world-Pashupatinath Temple- lies on the banks of the river Bagmati. Tens of millions of Hindu devotees visit this temple yearly. Lord Shiva is the main deity. The temple is especially full on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. It is a two-storied temple that has various other temples surrounding it.

Boudhanath Stupa:

The peaceful eyes of the Boudhanath temple is the greatest symbol of Buddhism in Nepal. This UNESCO World Heritage SIte made in in 1979 A.D. The temple was made about two thousand five hundred years ago. You can find people of all faiths in Boudhanath. The prayer wheels of this stupa are beautifully carved.

Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Squares:

Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square lie in the districts of Kathmandu and Patan respectively. The kings of Kathmandu and Patan resided in the palaces in these squares in the past. Displays of the Newari artists and craftsmen’s skills are replete in these squares. Krishna Mandir in Patan Durbar Square and Hanuman Dhoka complex in Kathmandu Durbar Square are the most important places there along with the museums there.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara (828 m /2690 ft) 6 – 7 hrs, Hotel  Accommodation.

Next day, you will set out to Pokhara on a bus after having breakfast in your hotel. The route of the bus takes you along the beautiful, scenic hills along with sights of Trisuli and Marsyangdi River. It is also possible for you to catch views of Ganesh Himal and the Manaslu peak during this bus ride. After a bus ride of 6-7 hours from Kathmandu, you will reach Pokhara (820 meters).

Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. It is a paradise for tourists. This is mainly due to its wonderful landscape, touristic vibe, and its clean, green environment. After you reach Pokhara, you can stroll around the city or spend some quality time in the lakeside.

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul (1070m / 3312 ft) and trek to Ghandruk (1940 m /6396 ft) 4-5 hrs, Tea House Accommodation.

You will head out to Nayapul (new bridge) the next day after having breakfast on a 2-hour drive. Nayapul lies at an altitude of 1070 meters. You start your trek in Nayapul. The start of your trek passes through some busy areas. You will encounter local and international trekkers, mule and donkey trains along the way. The path joins Bhirthati village. From here, you will follow the main trail, which is an old Trans-Himalayan trade route path. The trek then follows the main route through several farm villages and waterfalls till you reach Tikhedhunga. The total duration of today’s trek is 3-4 hours. You will spend your night in Tikhedhunga (1520 meters).

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani (2880 m/ 9446 ft) 6-7 hrs, Tea House Accommodation.

You will encounter one of the most difficult parts of the trek this day. You will walk 2 hours uphill as you trek along thousands of stone staircases to Ulleri. From Ulleri, the path winds gradually through the cool rainforest with gentle uphills and downhills. You can feel a cold wind blowing as you trek. You will also find a change in temperature as well as vegetation on your way to Ghorepani. You will encounter many rhododendron trees along the forests of ACAP region while trekking to Ghorepani. Eventually, after trekking for 6-7 hours, you will reach Ghorepani (2860 meters).

Day 06: Hike to Poonhill (3210 m / 10529) and trek to Ghandruk (1950 m / 6396) 7-8 hrs, Tea House Accommodation.

You will go on an early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,190m) to catch mesmerizing views of the sunrise. The sun rises over the great panorama of the great mountains like Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre amongst others. From here, you will return back to Ghorepani for breakfast. The trail from Ghorepani takes you to an upper ridge as you walk through rhododendron forest. The path then narrows downhill as you walk through the temperate forests. You might encounter some steep paths along the way before reaching Bhanthahti. Birethanti lies in the middle of the forest where you can take a small lunch-break. Then, you will hike along a trail for an hour through rhododendron forests and small streams. After trekking uphill for an hour, you will reach Tadapani (2630 meters). Tadapani is in the middle of the forest of Rhododendron, Magnolia, and Oaks. From this place, you can have grand views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre (fishtail). Today’s trek to Tadapani, including the hike to Poon Hill and back, is 6-7 hours long.

Day 07: Trek to Landruk (1565 m / 5133 ft) 5 – 6 hrs, Tea House Accommodation.

Today’s walk from Tadapani to Landruk (1565 meters) is 5-6 hours long. The walk initially leads through some beautiful forests of the ACAP region. You will also get to see the Annapurna mountain range occasionally along the way. After a while, the trail is downhill and takes you through a few small villages you reach Ghandrung. Ghandrung a major large village of this area. You will have your lunch at Ghandrung. After walking for more than an hour, you will reach a suspension bridge over the Modi River. Another slow uphill trek for about an hour takes you to Landrung village, where you will spend your night.

Day 08: Trek to Australian Camp (2230 m/ 7314 ft ) (Thulo Kharka) via Pothana  5-6 hrs, Tea House Accommodation.

The trail from Landrung takes you through villages and terraced fields along windy roads. After trekking for two hours, the trail leads you to a small pass at Deurali ridge 2,150m. From Deurali, you will trek downhill through forests of ACAP with magnificent view of the Annapurna and Mt.Manaslu range. These mountains will be by your side all the way to the small village of Pothana. This village lies in the midst of the woods overlooking magnificent view of snow-capped mountain range, valleys and Phewa lake in Pokhara. 50 minutes of good walk from Pothana through the cool shades of forests brings you at Thulo Kharka, which is also known as Australian Camp (2230 meters). Overall, the trek to Australian Camp from Landrung is 5-6 hours long. Australian Camp is a wonderful spot with large meadows. It overlooks magnificent views of the Himalayan range of mountains from Annapurna to Manaslu.

Day 09: Trek to Kande & drive to Pokhara (828 m /2690 ft) . Approx 1 hr walk and 1 hr drive, Tea House Accommodation.

After enjoying some fabulous views of the Himalayas from Australian Camp, you will head out to Kande. Today’s trek is the shortest of your journey. It only takes 1 hour to get to Kande (1770 meters) from the Australian Camp. You will trek through an easy downhill will lead to the village of Kande. It lies by the Baglung-Pokhara highway. A one hour drive from Kande will lead you to your hotel located near Phewa Lake.

Day 10: Drive back from Pokhara to Kathmandu on a comfortable tourist bus. 7 – 8 hrs, Hotel Accommodation.

On this day, you will drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara. The route of the bus takes you along the beautiful, scenic hills along with sights of Trisuli and Marsyangdi River. It is also possible for you to catch views of Ganesh Himal and the Manaslu peak during this bus ride. After a ride of 6-7 hours from Pokhara, you will reach Kathmandu. You can go for some last minute shopping in Thamel to buy some souvenirs or other items you might need. We will also organize a farewell dinner for you for a successful completion of your trek.

Day 11: Transfer to Airport for International departure.
