Everest – Cho-La Pass – Gokyo Trek - 19 Days

Everest- Cho-La pass-Gokyo trek is the best way to get the most out of the beauty of the Everest Region. It is a strenuous trek that takes you not only to the Everest Base Camp. It also takes you to Gokyo valley. You will also cross a mountain pass- Cho-La Pass during the trek. During this trip, you will go to Namche Bazaar and Tengboche. In these places, you can interact with the locals as well. You can also visit the Tengboche Monastery in Tengboche. You can be a part of the celebration of the festival called Mani Rimdu in this monastery if you trek here in the autumn season. So, this trek gives you a chance to learn the culture of the Everest region. Along the way to Everest Base Camp, you can see various towering mountains from villages like Lobuche, Dingboche, and Gorak Shep. You can catch the closest views of 4 out of the 8 tallest mountains in the world during the Everest-Cho-La pass- Gokyo trek. These mountains include Cho Oyu (8201m), Makalu (8463m), Lhotse (8516 m) and Everest (8850m).

Lhotse and Mt. Makalu mountain range, including arrays of over 7000 to 6000m snow capped peaks. The trip starts with an interesting flight to Lukla 2730m, from here on adventure follows the old route following the footsteps of Tenzing and Hillary since 1953, the traditional villages still retains its culture and religions as it was for hundreds of years, heading towards high terrain to Everest base camp and Kalapatthar for panoramic views of world’s highest peaks, then returning back Lobuche and trail leads to the way of Cho-La pass a small place called Dzongla which lies in the lap of Tsi-La hill.

From here you are starting a challenging uphill climbing to Cho-La which is covered by snow in the winter (sometimes close for 15 days to one month), for a pass can be seen marvelous view of Mt. Everest range and much more mountain from Gokyo side also. After passing this a challenging Cho-La pass then you will be heading to a different world to Gokyo Lake which offers an amazing view of Gokyo Lake with white mountain reflection in it. After great view from Gokyo-Ri and Third Lake, you are heading back to Namche Bazaar and Lukla for the short scenic flight back to Kathmandu after a memorable enjoyable trip with us

After you trek back from Everest Base Camp, you will head out to the gorgeous valley of Gokyo. This settlement is home to Gokyo Lakes, which are the highest freshwater lake system in the world. You will also scale Gokyo Ri which is a small mountain that gives you spectacular sunrise amidst the mountains in the Everest region. You will also cross the Cho-La pass on your way down from the Everest Base Camp. While crossing the Co-La pass (5420 meters), you will walk along the Cho La glacier. In this trek, you will get to experience everything that the Everest region has to offer for a trekker. It gives you a chance to view the spectacular mountains, cross a mountain pass, get in touch with the culture of Tibetan Buddhism, and explore one of the most gorgeous valleys in Nepal i.e. Gokyo.

Best Time for Everest- Cho-La Pass- Gokyo Trek

Spring and Autumn are the best seasons to complete the Everest-Cho-La Pass, Gokyo trek. The months of March, April, and May mark the spring season. On the other hand, autumn falls in the months of September, October, and November. Spring season has moderate temperature. The amount of precipitation is quite low in spring. You will also have a very little harsh wind blowing in the Everest region during the spring season You can catch some awesome views of the rhododendron forests in Spring. A maximum number of trekkers complete the Everest-Cho-La Pass in the autumn season. Autumn starts after the end of the monsoon period in Nepal. So, the temperature for trekking is close to perfect in the autumn season. The views of the mountains are equally good in the autumn. Therefore, autumn sees the largest influx of trekkers to the Everest region.

Everest- Cho-La Pass- Gokyo Trek Difficulty

Everest-Cho-La Pass is ranked as a moderately difficult trek. The high altitude you will reach during your trek along with the number of days makes it a moderately difficult trek. The highest point you will reach during the Everest-Cho-La Pass trek is 5545 meters at Kala Patthar. The total number of trekking days is 15 days. You will be walking for an average of 5-6 hours during your trek. So, it is mandatory for you to train for this trek. You need to train for around 3-4 months prior to coming of this trek. You can spend an hour in the morning in jogging, running, swimming or cycling. You can also hit the gym to increase your strength and endurance needed for this trek. Completing a hike or a short trek before attempting this trek will be extremely useful. These short hikes will give you a very good idea as to whether your body has adapted to trekking for long hours.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and Transfer to your Hotel.

Entry in Kathmandu, Meet our delegate in the air terminal and exchange to the lodging Access Nepal or comparable classes on B/B.

Day 02: Leisure and preparation day.

You will take a good rest before you start your trek, we will utilize this day for your trek preparation and prepare all the equipment ready, meet trekking leaders and guide and if time allows, you can go for a city tour in the evening.

Day 03: Flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2700 meters)

You take an early morning scenic flight to Lukla (2800m). Start your trek and head to Phakding. Descend the Tharo Koshi which is also known as Kusum Kangru Khola (river). After crossing the Tharo Koshi River through the suspension bridge and continue the climb to Phakding. Overnight at Phakding.

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 meters)

You follow Dudh Koshi River and get to Zamphuti. This is an excellent viewpoint of Thamserku peak.  You continue our trek and enter the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park (1148sq km, established in 1976) at Monjo (2840m.) and finally reach Namche Bazaar.

Day 05: Acclimatization day in Namche (3440 meters)

Rest for the proper acclimatization. You can hike around to overview some of the outstanding mountains such as Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse etc. You can walk around the Khumjung valley, Hillary School, and Khunde Hospital and then return back to Namche.

Day 06: Trek to Tengboche. (3860 meters) 5 hours.

Walk along the ridge and then descend to Dudh Koshi River at Phunkithanka. Then after crossing the bridge, you ascend in the steep path up to the Tengboche. On reaching Tengboche you will see the local monastery. Tengboche have the largest Monastery of Khumbu region.

Day 07: Tengboche to Dingboche (4350 meters) 5.30 hours.

Descend to Debuche, cross suspension bridge on the Imja Khola, and then climb to Pangboche amongst thousands of Mani stones. Your uphill trek continues, taking you to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche with its exquisite

Day 08: Acclimatization at Dinboche.

You stop at Dingboche to become accustomed to a new climate. Youe take a good rest before start your trekking to Lobuche.

Day 09: Dingboche to Lobuche (4910 meters) 5 hours.

The path stretches along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. You continue to climb as you are heading to the altitude of 4910 meters at Lobuche which is really just a few huts at the foot of giant Lobuche peak. Overnight.

Day 10: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5365 meters) then back to Gorak Shep (5180 meters).

A bit strenuous trekking day, you will walk along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 5365 meters, the closest you can get to Mt. Everest. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular. You return back to Gorak Shep for the overnight. More or less 8 Hours walking in total.

Day 11: Hike up to Kalapattar (5555 meters) and trek back to Dzongla (4620m.)

Most of the morning you climb Mt. Kala Pattar, a small peak (by Himalayan standards) at 5555 meters. The ascent is demanding but the climber gets the most magnificent mountain panorama: Everest, the highest point on the planet at 29028ft, 8848 meters, towers directly ahead and on all sides loom the other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. You make a quick descent to Gorak Shep. Then you descend gently to Lobuche and then go upward to Dzongla.

Day 12: Dzongla to Thangna (4650 m.)

You walk on the flat stone path for some time passing through the parched valley. Then we ascend in the steep path to Chola pass in the icy trails along Chola glacier. After you reach Chola pass you descend down on another side through the stony path until you reach Phedi. From there you climb down up to Thangna. It is a small village with few lodges and tea shops. Catch a glimpse of Machhermo peak and many more.

Day 13: Thangna to Gokyo (4750m.)

Walk along the glacier route until you reach first Lake of Gokyo. The trek is easier over flat path following Dudh Koshi River up to Gokyo. It is a windy valley and situated near the third lake. At Gokyo, you are stunned by the natural beauty of Dudh Pokhari Lake.

Day 14: Rest day at Gokyo

You take rest and explore the Gokyo valley. Gokyo is a trade center where the Sherpa people run lodges to provide the best services to the trekkers. Gokyo is situated by the side of Ngozumba glacier, the biggest glacier of Nepal.

Day 15: climb Gokyo Ri (5483m.) and trek to Machhermo (4410m.)

You first climb the Gokyo Ri which emerges above the village on the northern side of the Lake. From the Peak, you can see the beautiful view of the summits of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. Then you descend to Gokyo and trek top Machhermo. You follow the Dudh Koshi River. You see large yak pastures there.

Day 16: Machhermo to Namche Bazaar (3440 m.)

Walk downhill to Phortse Tenga. You pass through the forest covered with rhododendron, pine, and local incense. Then you ascend in the steep path to Monglo and then descend gently to Khumjung. From Khumjung, you walk in the flat path for some time and then descend to Namche.

Day 17: Namche to Lukla

Descend to Lukla passing through the forest of rhododendron and pine as well as Sherpa villages.

Day 18: Morning flight back to Kathmandu. 30 minutes.

Enjoying your last glimpse of the mountains you have recently visited for one last time on the 35-minute Scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Transfer to the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 19: Final Departure

Our representative will drop you off at the airport for your flight back home or to your next destination.
